Riccardo Sala in arte Rikyboy nasce a Milano nel 1996 studia al Liceo Artistico Pio XI di Desio in provincia di Monza e Brianza, prosegue il percorso artistico all’Accademia di Pittura Vittorio Viviani di Nova Milanese, sempre in provincia di Monza e Brianza, e successivamente approfondisce gli studi con il Master in incisione e stampa d’arte alla Fondazione il Bisonte di Firenze. Rikyboy è un artista visivo il cui processo pittorico spazia dall’intervento murale allo studio della calcografia fino all’interpretazione musicale. La sua poetica rimanda alle immagini, recondite e sfumate, derivanti dai ricordi dell’infanzia ed è proprio la nostalgia a diventare protagonista dell’immaginario dell’artista attraverso un corollario di raffigurazioni di realtà circensi e vedute rurali. Nella prima, laddove è il circo protagonista della storia con la sua cartellonistica, i volantini e gli striscioni, il segno si fa grafico, le campiture piatte e i colori chiassosi. Il mondo della comunicazione circense sembra conservare un principio estetico rigoroso di cui l’artista ne mantiene l’origine, la esalta.

Al contrario, nella seconda, l’attenzione per gli scorci campestri conduce l’artista verso un differente sviluppo pittorico, il segno è gestuale, le pennellate sono frastagliate, sovrapposte e frenetiche. Rikyboy si considera un voyeur della Brianza e l’opera Busc de Brianza ne conferma l’autodefinizione: l’angolo di un bosco dipinto nel suo silenzio più intimo e un’im- magine che solo un occhio lontano e ossequioso può descrivere e riprodurre. Nella primavera 2024 nasce il progetto itinerante Circo Rurale, alla scoperta delle cascine e delle corti Lombarde, un percorso che desidera valorizzazione la spettacolarità della vita agreste nella sua attuale – spesso – decadenza. L’incanto, che però è sospeso nei luoghi, viene celebrato da Rikyboy con un tributo circense al paesaggio rurale. Rikyboy è inoltre il batterista del gruppo Amici di Bruce assieme ad Aronne Pleuteri e Riccardo Peverelli; ideatore e produttore dell’etichetta discografica Petronilla Records e fondatore con Paola Fortes Fernandez della stamperia Calcografia Petronilla. Dal 2016 al 2017 assistente dell’artista Gonzalo Borondo.

Riccardo Sala, aka Rikyboy, was born in Milan (Italy) in 1996. He studied at the Pio XI Art High School in Desio, in the province of Monza and Brianza, and continued his artistic journey at the Vittorio Viviani Academy of Painting in Nova Milanese, also in the province of Monza and Brianza. He furthered his studies with a Master’s in engraving and art printing at the Fondazione Il Bisonte in Florence. Rikyboy is a visual artist whose painting process ranges from mural interventions to the study of etching to musical interpretation. His poetics evoke hidden and blurred images derived from childhood memories, with nostalgia becoming the protagonist of the artist’s imagination through a series of representations of circus reality and rural landscapes. In the former, where the circus is the protagonist of the story with its posters, flyers, and banners, the mark becomes graphic, the background flat, and the colours noisy. The world of circus communication seems to preserve a rigorous aesthetic principle, which the artist maintains and exalts. On the other hand, the attention to rural glimpses leads the artist towards a different pictorial development; the mark is gestural, the brushstrokes jagged, overlapping, and frenetic. Rikyboy considers himself a voyeur of Brianza, and his work Busc de Brianza confirms this self-definition: the corner of a forest painted in its most intimate silence, an image that only a distant and respectful eye can describe and reproduce. In the spring of 2024, the itinerant project was born, Circo Rurale, alla scoperta delle cascine e delle corti Lombarde, a journey that aims to enhance the spectacular nature of rural life in its current—often—decadence. However, the suspended charm in these places is celebrated by Rikyboy with a circus tribute to the rural landscape. Furthermore, Rikyboy is the drummer of the group Amici di Bruce together with Aronne Pleuteri and Riccardo Peverelli; creator and producer of the record la- bel Petronilla Records; and founder, with Paola Fortes Fernandez, of the printing house Calcografia Petronilla. From 2016 to 2017, he was an assistant to the artist Gonzalo Borondo.
